John LoPorto, Chairman and CEO
Mr. LoPorto has over 20 years experience in senior executive management positions in the technology industry. Most recently he was CEO of Breakthrough Systems, Inc., a provider of embedded software to the data storage, avionics, telecommunications and defense industries. Mr. LoPorto was previously Vice President of Business Development for Storage Technology Corporation (STK). Mr. LoPorto has previously held various senior executive sales and marketing positions at EMC and Sun Microsystems and was also an early stage key executive in a number of successful startup organizations including Veritas Software which was acquired by Symantec for over $13B and Logicraft, which was the first company to earn a position on the prestigious Inc 500 list for three consecutive years. Mr. LoPorto holds an engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and completed graduate business studies at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Mary C. Doswell, Director
Mary C. Doswell is senior vice president Alternative Energy Solutions at Dominion Resource Services, Inc.
Her responsibilities include enhancing and expanding Dominion’s focus on smart grid technologies, energy efficiency, and alternative energy generation in conjunction with the appropriate business units. Doswell joined Virginia Electric and Power Company as an economist in 1982. She has held leadership positions in several Dominion operating units, including senior vice president–Regulation & Integrated Planning, and president and chief executive officer of Dominion Resources Services, Inc. She assumed her current position on April 1, 2009.
Doswell received her B.A. degree in physics cum laude from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts. She also received a master’s degree in Materials Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Chris Demain, Director
Chris Demain is Vice President of Corporate Development for Lockheed Martin Corporation in Bethesda, MD. His responsibilities for mergers and acquisitions range from target selection through transaction structure and negotiation to closing.
From 2000 to 2002, he served as Vice President of Finance & Business Operations for Lockheed Martin’s Space Systems Business Area in Denver, CO, where he was responsible for finance, contracts, estimating and cost management. Demain served for the prior two years as Vice President of Business Management at Lockheed Martin Astronautics and before that for two years as Vice President of Business Operations at Lockheed Martin Information Systems in Orlando, Florida. From 1989 to 1996, he served as the Director of Finance and then Vice President of Business Management for Lockheed Martin Aero and Naval Systems in Baltimore, MD. He previously served as director of Business Management for Martin Marietta Communications Systems, Director of Financial Planning at Martin Marietta Corporate Headquarters, and Director of Strategic Assessment for Martin Marietta Aerospace.
Demain joined Martin Marietta in 1981 following five years of diverse corporate and strategic planning experience. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Master’s degree in management from MIT’s Sloan School.
Roy G. Perry, Director
Roy G. Perry served in executive managerial roles at IBM, Allied Signal, Dell and StorageTek. Throughout his 30 year career, Mr. Perry mastered the engineering and manufacturing field, while developing an army of current and future engineering and manufacturing leaders. In addition to his corporate career. Mr. Perry has several entrepreneurial pursuits including product design, manufacturing and supply chain consulting, His expertise allows him to identify and drive operational improvements from any process where manpower, machines and methods are utilized.
Roy G. Perry is currently serving as Chairman and President of Prairie View A&M Foundation. He has earned several distinctions for engineering and leadership including “Outstanding Engineering Student of the Year” by Prairie View A&M University and the Texas Society of Professional Engineers in 1978, Black Enterprise Magazine called him a “Manufacturing Genius” for his accomplishments at Dell in 1999. In recognition for his contributions to the university, the college and the field of engineering, the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents and the Prairie View A&M University Leadership approved the naming of the College, Roy G. Perry College of Engineering.
Steven Berens, Director
Mr. Berens is a skilled industry executive that brings more than 20 years of experience in strategy, marketing, sales and engineering to all his endeavors. He has demonstrated the ability to deliver results for innovative companies looking to address customer requirements in new, emerging and mature markets. Mr. Berens’ solid industry relationships, strategic insight and creativity have led
to successful market launches that focus on anticipating market needs and bringing timely solutions. Most recently he served as President & CEO of Privacy Networks. Previously Mr. Berens has held key management positions in high technology start-ups and Fortune 500 companies including IBM, Benchmark Storage Innovations, Quantum Corporation and Privacy Networks. Mr. Berens holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arizona and an MBA from the University of Southern California.
